Patient care is delivered by teams. A patient with kidney failure, a mother in labour or a child with typhoid fever is looked after by doctors, nurses and pharmacists together, within a health system shaped by policy, supply and cost. Yet the research that should guide these teams is usually published in separate journals that rarely speak to each other. The Journal of Health, Pharmacy, Medicine and Nursing (JHPMN) has been founded to bring that evidence into one place.
What JHPMN publishes
JHPMN publishes original research, systematic and narrative reviews, short communications and case reports in four sections: Health Sciences; Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; Medicine and Clinical Sciences; and Nursing and Allied Health. We particularly welcome studies from settings where research capacity is growing and where locally generated evidence is most needed to improve care, including work that grows out of postgraduate training and everyday clinical practice.
Our commitments to authors and readers
- Independent peer review. Every research article is assessed by at least two independent reviewers. Editors do not handle manuscripts in which they have a competing interest.
- Transparent reporting. We ask authors to follow the international reporting guideline that fits their study design, such as STROBE, CONSORT, PRISMA or CARE, and to state ethics approval, consent, funding, competing interests and data availability.
- Open access. Every article is free to read from the day it is published.
- Fair costs. There is no fee to submit or to be reviewed. A modest article processing charge applies only after acceptance, and waivers are available.
- Integrity. We follow recognised publication-ethics guidance on authorship, plagiarism, corrections and retractions, and we will correct the record openly when it is needed.
The inaugural issue
This first issue is the beginning of what we hope will become a trusted home for multidisciplinary health research. I thank the members of the editorial board, our reviewers, and the authors who entrust their work to a new journal. I invite researchers, clinicians, pharmacists and nurses to read, to review, and to submit their best work to JHPMN.
